Bend stiffeners are designed to provide additional local stiffness for the flexible pipe/umbilical/cable at the interface with a rigid structure.
Mainly used to protect the cable from excessive bending during installation, and excessive deployment from the deck of a lying ship. It is usually manufactured as a one-piece tapered polyurethane molded part to facilitate easy positioning at the end of the cable or umbilical cord.
