For wire rope hoists that are often in motion, oiling the wire rope is essential. Tests have shown that about half of the wire breaks in oiled steel wire ropes in the latter part of the test occurred without oil.
For steel wire ropes with harsh operating environment and relatively little movement, you can choose galvanization, aluminum plating, etc. This will form zinc hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide films on the surface layer, which can effectively prevent the corrosion of electric wire rope hoists for metallurgy.
The surface of the steel wire rope damaged by corrosion is oxidizing, so that a part of the metal on the surface becomes the anode and the other part becomes the cathode, forming a large number of small batteries.
Under the action of small batteries, many corrosion pits are formed on the surface and gradually deepen. These pits became the source of stress concentration and fatigue cracks. Of course, at the same time, the cross-sectional area of the metallurgical wire rope electric hoist is reduced, and the ability to withstand impact forces is reduced.
